On a Running Funk

I hate this part. But the good thing is, that usually when this things happen you come out better and stronger on the other end so I have that to look forward to.

I'm in a running funk.

After the Puerto Rico Half Marathon, I've been having a lot of problems with my runs. Everything hurts, I can't sustain speed, everything feels wrong and weird. I'm hating every minute of it.

Some of it is the temperature change. As it gets warmer here, performance goes down along with it but there is more to it than that I think. It doesn't hurt that my work schedule has been absolutely crazy the past few weeks. The lack of continuity is surely adding to the situation. I was also sick recently so a lot of stuff going on right now.

But worry not my friends! Things like this happen all the time and this too, shall pass. Next week, registration for the Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend opens to the general public and finally signing up for the Goofy Challenge should light the fire under my butt that I need to get out of it.

How about you guys... anyone doing Marathon Weekend in 2016?

    1. Thanks Jennifer. I'm sure it's a temporary setback. The desire to run is there. It's just that when I run it feels "wrong" for some reason.

  3. I hope the funk passes soon for you :) The change of temperature definitely makes it hard. There were a couple weekends in a row where I just skipped out on running completely so I made some running dates with friends for the next couple weekends to make sure I got out there! It really helped to run with friends and remember how much I enjoyed it again.

    1. Yup, running with others is a pretty solid strategy. Nothing like having some running fun with friends.

  4. It happens to everyone. But you will definitely come back stronger once you snap out of it! ;-)

  5. My marathoning days ended a few years ago with an injury, but I still love running halves and shorter. It sounds like your body had plenty of reasons to rebel, but I'll bet registering for the Goofy Challenge will light that fire that you're looking for!

Happy to have found your blog through Jenn at Runs With Pugs!

  6. Yep...been there. Happens to me all the time. For me, a change in temperature will always kill me. Anything above 65 and I'm down for the count, lol.

But I've also found that when there's lots of other stuff going on in my life (work stress, family stress, etc.), that it all affects my running. OR, when I'm pushing myself too hard and not giving my body enough rest days, or I'm not hydrating well enough, etc. There's a MILLION different things that can affect our performance while training. But sometimes the best thing you can do is listen to your body, give yourself a little break if need be, and you WILL come back stronger than ever.

OH, yeah, and there's nothing like taking on the Goofy that helps you get your mojo back...super excited for you!! :)

  7. I think everyone goes through running funks and personally I think taking time off is the best thing you can do. Signing up for a big race/races can also light a fire and get you motivated. Congrats on Goofy, if you use the Jeff Galloway training plan on the runDisney website you will really enjoy the race weekend.
