It's The Avengers Half Marathon

My inner geek is jumping for joy!

I was gonna rant about my awful experience at the World's Best 10K Expo today but that will have to wait a bit. runDisney has made the announcement everyone was hoping they would make.

It's a new race weekend and it's The Avengers! Here is the video announcement. Cheesy as can be but who cares.

Rumors had been going around for a while now regarding a new race weekend and there was a general consensus that it was gonna be either a Marvel themed race or a Star Wars race based around the already successful Star Wars Weekends in Florida.  Well, November 14-16 2014 will be the inaugural Avengers Super Heroes Half-Marathon Weekend.

This makes perfect sense. runDisney had been pushing the girl power quotient for a while now by adding the Tinker Bell Half in California and the Princess Half in Florida. Us guys were beginning to feel left out.

This is a game changer for me. I mentioned a while back that I wanted to do a fall half-marathon to chase that sub-3 I want to do so bad and this weekend being in mid-November fits right in my schedule and... It's the freaking Avengers!!

Alas, this announcement is bittersweet for me. The race will be in Disneyland.  As in California. I'm pretty certain I won't be able to afford it. Again, the decision makes sense. There are a lot more races in Florida and this balances out things a little bit in that regard. Also, with Islands of Adventure (and therefore Marvel Super Hero Island) right next door, Disney might have a bit of a conflict of interest if it was held in Disney World.

You can also bet this race is gonna sell out almost instantly so I have a very small window to figure out if I can pull this off or not. Registration opens at noon on March 25. I want to do this so bad. It's an inaugural event, it's in California (never been to Disneyland), it would get me the coveted Coast to Coast medal (which I also want REAL bad) and... it's the freaking Avengers!!!

Here is the runDisney page for the event. Maybe I shouldn't post it though. the less people know about this, the better for me.

I'm thinking... there's a bunch of stuff I have two of. Like kidneys, eyes, arms... I can run with only one of all those things. Maybe I can get in touch with the black market... Besides, maybe there's still an outside chance they do the Star Wars race in Florida? run Disney? Pretty please?

    1. Plus, if I dress as Iron Man, I can use those self-propelled boot thingies to guarantee my sub-3. Heck, with those I'll aim for a sub-1. he he

  2. Haha, glad you're so excited! Hope you can make it happen. The Avengers theme doesn't thrill me all that much, to be honest, but it's exciting that runDisney is adding new races! :)

However...if they DID add a Star Wars race (let's face it, we all know it's happening eventually!), then I am just going to DIE... ;-D

  3. This race announcement is bittersweet for me, too. I will definitely be jealous of everyone that gets to do this one.

If it was in Florida I would be the first in line to sign up, but it is so much more expensive to get to California. I understand why runDisney would add a new race to the west coast, but that doesn't mean I can't be sad about it. :)

  4. I'm totally stoked about this race as well. Since I'm from LA, it's kind of a no brainer for me to try and get in. Plus, like you said, it's Avengers! I ran as Captain America in the Rock n Roll Los Angeles Half Marathon last year. Can't wait!

Let me know if you find a way to make it out here. It would be great to see you again. However, I totally understand how finances can get in the way. That's why the WDW races won't happen very often for me. It just costs too much to fly to Florida. Even if you don't make it out here, keep on running. That sub 3 hour half will happen!

    1. Two birds in different ponds with exactly the same problem! It's so much stuff! Not just planes tickets but hotel, food, tickets (what, like I'm not gonna visit the "small" Disney Castle?) It's really an investment. But it's so much fun right?

  5. This was one of those announcements that would have been great at Marathon Weekend Expo. Then maybe I wouldn't have signed up for the Dumbo Double dare... Either way, it's a great addition to the series. I just won't be able to swing the Inaugural race. My girls won't let me dress up like Thor either, and the hammer would get too heavy or confiscated by TSA...lol

    1. I guess we could get away with the headgear he wears. You know, the one with the wings? We could totally rock that Donald! Actually I have a similar problem with this race. I would LOVE to do Wine & Dine. Maybe I'll just close my eyes and pick one.

  6. That sounds great!!! If you are going as Iron Man, Frankie can go as Thor, Ernesto as Hulk and we can run it together!

    1. Well, that would make you Captain America now, wouldn't it? How convenient... Are you saying you're going? Cause it would be easier if more people are going. We can pool our resources or something.

  7. I was so excited to see that announcement too, but wish it would be next year. I just did Tink and Princess and I said I wasn't going to do a third runDisney race this year. Except for the flight there, I found that staying off property (which is right across the street) was a heck of a lot cheaper then WDW. Still thinking about it, though...

  8. I want to do this sooooo badly but I'm not going to be able to swing it either. Coming off of PHM weekend and the GSC I already promised the husband no more Disney for a few years. booooo! I hope you're able to make it out there!
